Welcome
Welcome (Fáilte!) to the Legal Education Matters blog/webpage, where I, Verona Ní Drisceoil, share my thoughts, reflections, and provocations on legal education matters. In the future, I will also share some resources on teaching and how to connect in the classroom and beyond. In naming this blog, I took inspiration from two brilliant teaching and learning blogs: Learning Matters and Teaching Matters. Check them out!
To start, a bit about me. I’m a Reader (Assoc Prof.) in Legal Education at the University of Sussex (Brighton). I’m on an Education & Scholarship track, having moved over from an Education & Research track in 2019. Since 2017, I have been involved in leading or co-leading on various education related work/projects in my department including pre-university outreach, transition, legal skills embedding, feedback, the pivot online in 2020 and most recently how to respond to the significant advances in generative AI.
Beyond Sussex Law School, I am a Judge for the OUP Law Teacher of the Year Award and co-convene the Connecting Legal Education Network, with Professor Lydia Bleasdale and Professor Michael Doherty. Like me, they are incredibly passionate about all things legal education, so it is a joy to work with them.
I hope you enjoy reading my posts and find any resources I share here useful. Feel free to connect if you would like to brainstorm anything legal education related or to ask for advice. Always happy to help if I can. Contact
I’m currently working on projects on authentic assessment in law, generative AI and assessment and community and belonging. Other wider interests include voice work & oracy skills, inequality in legal education, feedback, universal design for learning and evaluative judgement.
